Hotel Encanto is a one-of-a-kind luxury hotel with everything that well-heeled travelers could want in a vacation -- except for beach access. The hotel’s pool is mesmerizing with an infinity ledge that overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and has contrasting clear and black-bottom areas which create the perception of two-toned waters. Well-known Mexican chef Mónica Patiño runs Origin, and there's a second restaurant for lighter fare. The spa offers a long, open-air spa tub situated on a wooden terrace, which offers dramatic views of the ocean. There are 44 guest rooms with a striking modern design that includes natural stone furniture. But breakfast isn't included and there's a daily resort fee. Travelers could also try the luxury Banyan Tree Cabo Marques, which offers hillside villas.
Scene
Boutique art hotel with a refined, peaceful atmosphere
Hotel Encanto may be minimalist, but it’s certainly not modest -- everything about this hotel is eye-catching, with all-white decor contrasting boldly against the bright blue waters of the pool as well as the ocean on the horizon. An LCD lighting system illuminates the building and rooms, making the pool appear even bluer and casting the guest rooms in soft tones of lavender, violet, and yellow. At night, the pool deck is lit subtly with candles to highlight the vast view of the ocean and night sky.The hotel was a collaboration between architect Miguel Ángel Aragonés and lighting designer Gustavo Avilés, who together created a design that works with the natural relationship between light and shadow. Polished stone and white custom-designed furniture dominate the common areas, with thin rivers of pool water and graceful trees dotted here and there to temper the hotel’s daring, geometric shapes. Almost every space emphasizes sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and the lush surrounding landscape. The result is an atmosphere that is laid-back, tranquil, and effortlessly chic. The hotel was quiet during our visit, enhancing its already surreal ambience.
Location
Serene hilltop location overlooking Puerto Marques Bay
The hotel is set in a private location in the upscale Brisas Marques gated community, about a 10-minute drive from the shops, restaurants, and bars of downtown Acapulco. It’s a wonderful spot for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of central Acapulco, but guests should keep in mind that the attractions and dining options within walking distance are extremely limited.Playa Puerto Marques and Playa Icacos are both about three miles away in opposite directions. Slightly farther away are Playa Diamente and Playa Revolcadero, accessible in 20 minutes by car. The Chapel of Peace viewpoint is two-and-a-half miles away, and Acapulco International Airport can be reached in a 20-minute drive.
Rooms
Large guest rooms feature outstanding minimalist design, L'Occitane bath products, and private balconies
Guest rooms at Hotel Encanto are minimalist and contemporary, with bare walls and clean lines acting as a neutral backdrop for floor-to-ceiling windows with wonderful ocean views. Floors, desks, and sleek units for flat-screen LCD TVs are made from natural polished stone. Desks are topped with glossy coffee table books, as well as Pandora’s Boxes, which contain extra amenities, such as gum and hotel-branded merchandise, available for additional fees. Some room categories also include jars filled with free snacks like jelly beans and nuts. Stocked mini-fridges are discretely tucked into niches found on the side of the desks. Beds with crisp white linens and pillow menus are set on platforms, illuminated with colors that can be changed using a remote.Attractive bathrooms offer separate toilet stalls and showers with rainfall showerheads. Some room categories also include bidets. Long stone countertops with dual sinks hold L’Occitane products. Closets with opaque glass doors hold magnifying mirrors, personal safes, and additional mini-bar items. All room categories include private balconies with white cushions set on stone banquettes. Balconies in some room categories also feature dining tables and plunge pools.
Features
Sleek infinity pool, dazzling dining venues with coastal views, and stylish spa with picturesque spa tub
The hotel’s pool is mesmerizing. It has an infinity ledge that overlooks the Pacific Ocean, as well as contrasting clear and black-bottom areas which create the perception of two-toned waters. Trees protrude ethereally from the water in some areas, blending with the lush greenery that surrounds the pool on all sides. Its teak deck is furnished with white beanbags chairs and daybeds, many of which are sheltered by canopies. Small carts are stocked with straw fedoras and sunscreen for guests to use.The hotel’s main restaurant, Origin, is headed by well-known Mexican chef Mónica Patiño. The restaurant’s clean, geometric design is softened by tall potted plants, understated bird canvases, wooden accents, and, of course, more impressive ocean views. Seating is offered in the open-air interior or out on the large terrace. Note that breakfast isn't included in the room rate. The hotel’s other dining venue, Family Room, offers drinks and lighter fare. Appropriately, the open-air interior looks like a glamorous living room with long white couches, and a towering, asymmetrical wooden bookshelf. The large terrace faces toward the hotel’s remarkable pool and the coast. The spa offers simple yet stunning treatment rooms, featuring glass-paneled walls with heavy curtains that can be drawn for privacy. The showpiece is a long, open-air spa tub placed on a wooden terrace, which offers dramatic views of the ocean. The compact fitness center includes a mix of cardio machines and weights, and thanks to a bank of wide windows, it showcases more amazing coastal views. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, and there's a movie theater with seating for 60 that can be rented for events.
