Copacabana Beach Hotel is a three-pearl hotel located in
Acapulco’s tourist-friendly Golden Zone. Countless bars, restaurants, and shops stretch in both directions
along Avenida Costera Miguel
Alemán out front, and the sands of curved Santa Lucia Bay are accessible out
back. The hotel’s 430 guest rooms are basic but inviting with flat-screen TVs and some ocean views from private balconies. There’s no wow
factor here, but there are a large pool, eight restaurants and bars, and a fitness center. It’s worth
comparing rates with the Crowne Plaza Acapulco and Emporio Acapulco Hotel
nearby, both of which offer similar value.
Scene
Generic beachfront hotel with a laid-back scene
With its
prime beachfront location and affordable rates, the Copacabana Beach Hotel attracts
a broad range of guests. The hotel seems to pander towards this diverse group, with
facilities that are nondescript but crowd-pleasing overall. A row of white hammocks provides a shady spot to rest overlooking the pool area. From the dark marble-covered
lobby to the featureless restaurants serving up uninspiring food, everything is
satisfactory, safe, and unmemorable. Barry Manilow’s song, “Copabacana” playing
on loop in the elevators is unsurprising, but tacky nonetheless.Like the other hotels along the Costera, the beach is covered with
closely-packed lounge chairs, although the ambience here and around the pool is
more easy going than many of the neighboring hotels. The jetted tubs on the
first-floor terrace are an unexpected extra, as is the large, modern fitness
center.
Location
Central location on pleasant Playa Icacos
The
Copacabana Beach Hotel is set in the heart of Acapulco’s Golden Zone, with bars,
restaurants, and shops jam packed along Avenida Costera Miguel Alemán directly
out front. The hotel is located on popular Playa Icacos, a busy but picturesque
beach in the middle of moon-shaped Santa Lucia Bay. When it comes to lively
beaches and bustling nightlife, the hotel is truly at the heart of the
action. The CICI
Water Park and Club de Golf Acapulco can be reached in a 10-minute walk. Zocalo and La Quebrada (for cliff diving) are about four miles
away, and the Acapulco International Airport can be reached in a 30-minute
drive.
Rooms
Pleasant guest rooms include balconies with views over Santa Lucia Bay
Guest rooms
at Copacabana Beach Hotel are clean and bright. The artwork is lackluster
and the furniture looks dated, but the bold coral-and-blue color scheme keeps
the look cheerful overall. Tile floors and white walls are straightforward. All room categories include small sitting
areas with sofas and armchairs, as well as flat-screen TVs and personal safes.
Narrow balconies furnished with two simple chairs offer lovely vistas over
curved Santa Lucia Bay.Bathrooms feature glass-doored showers and
sleek, square-shaped sinks. Long countertops are stocked with hotel-branded
toiletries. Junior Suites include coffeemakers, bathrobes, and slippers. Some
room categories also feature kitchenettes with microwaves, toasters, stove tops,
and cooking utensils.
Features
Relaxed pool area, fitness center, and eight dining venues, many of which feature scenic views of Santa Lucia Bay
The hotel’s restaurants are unexciting both in terms of boring decor and
forgettable food. The main restaurants are Acuario and Tabachines, both of
which are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Acuario is air-conditioned and
offers beautiful views over the bay, while open-air Tabachines is located by
the pool. There are also a number of tiny bars dotted around the pool and beach
areas. All-inclusive rates are available. The hotel offers two medium-sized pools and a jetted tub facing
towards the beach. The pools are surrounded by blue lounge chairs and a few
beach umbrellas. Like the other beaches along the Costera, Copacabana’s stretch
of sand is quite coarse and plagued by vendors offering cheap sunglasses and
massages. Two small jetted tubs are found on the hotel’s first floor
terrace, along with shaded hammocks, lounge chairs, and a giant chess
set. The terrace also includes a colorful indoor kids’ club with supervised
play equipment and video games, as well as an impressive (for the area) fitness center with
cardio equipment and free weights. The hotel offers a range of meeting and banquet rooms, which
can accommodate groups of up to 800 people. Like the hotel’s other facilities,
these rooms are tidy and functional but fairly plain. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout
the hotel, but many guests report that the connection is spotty.
