Scene
Housed inside old stone buildings with traditional decor
Part of a local
chain started by Charles Skene, the Whitehall property comprises a number
of beautiful old stone buildings. A wood-paneled front desk sits bracketed by two zigzag pattered wingback chairs. In the lobby, rose-colored armchairs clustered around circular coffee tables provide a cozy spot to sip coffee or tea and nibble free Scottish shortbread. The breakfast room is either stuffy or charming, depending on perspective, with floral
wallpaper and dining chairs in patterned upholstery. There's also a self-service honor
bar in one corner that resembles an office kitchenette, with a couple of
small refrigerators with soft drinks and a number of bottles lining the
countertops.
Location
Located on a residential block in the northwest corner of the city
The Skene House Whitehall is located on a
quiet, residential block northwest of the city center, right by busy Union Street. There are plenty of bars and
restaurants within a 10-minute walk of the hotel, and Union Square Shopping
Center, the train station, and the Malt Whiskey Trail are all less than a
20-minute walk away. The Aberdeen Airport is about a 20-minute drive from the hotel.
Rooms
Well-equipped apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes or fully equipped kitchens
The Skene House offers 49 units that range from Studios to Three-Bedroom Suites. They're generally spacious with lots of privacy, though the decor is on the dated end of the spectrum. Beige walls have simple still-life prints and large curtains with floral designs that look rather grandmotherly. Rooms feature beds with simple wooden headboards,
dressers, and cabinets, along with flat-screen TVs. All units have kitchenettes with ovens, stoves, dishwashers,
mini-fridges, microwaves, toasters, and all the utensils, plus a small dining table
that extends to a living room. Bathrooms are a little compact, with narrow shower/tub combos and partial glass doors.
Features
Extensive breakfast, free parking, Wi-Fi, and honor system bar
Although the
Skene House Whitehall doesn’t have a full-fledged restaurant or bar, there's a
large buffet breakfast served daily with a wide variety of yogurts, fresh fruit, and pastries, as well as cooked-to-order items. There's also a self-service honor bar with soft drinks and liquor. Discounted gym passes can be purchased from the front
desk, which is open 24 hours. On-site parking is free, as is hotel-wide Wi-Fi.
