The 150-room Palace Hotel Meggiorato has multiple thermal pools fed by local hot springs and a variety of relaxing and therapeutic treatments. Basic rooms have balconies and generally pleasant views; decor incorporates a few charming classic touches, but busy carpets and wallpapers make some spaces look dated. There's a restaurant serving local cuisine open for lunch and dinner, as well as an extensive breakfast is included in the room rate, but the property's main draw is unquestionably its spa and pools.
Scene
Elegant marble and crystal chandeliers contrast with loud prints in the lobby
The Palace Hotel Meggiorato has an old-fashioned, classically elegant atmosphere, with five floors of terraced rooms and a fountain in the main parking area. Inside, guests are greeted with an arguably gaudy lobby of chairs with loud prints and Oriental rugs surrounded by refreshingly plain off-white walls and matching columns. There are numerous seating areas throughout the hotel, each with its own vividly upholstered seats, as well as more subdued marble walls and elegant crystal chandeliers. The hotel welcomes children and business travelers, but because of its emphasis on therapeutic and relaxing treatments, it tends to draw more couples and the occasional solo traveler looking to unwind.
Location
On a pedestrian street in Abano Terme
The Palace Hotel Meggiorato is located in Abano Terme, a
city known for its thermal and mud baths. The area around the hotel is pedestrian, with bars,
shops, restaurants, and other hotels in the immediate vicinity. Padua is within a 20-minute drive, and Venice is about 45 minutes away. Both Treviso and
Verona are about an hour from the hotel, albeit in opposite directions.
Rooms
Simple, individually styled rooms with balconies
Furnishings are mostly traditional in style, and they vary from room to room -- some have wooden floors and simple cream-colored walls, while others have carpeting and accent walls with wallpaper. Although the rooms aren't particularly large, bathrooms are spacious and include walk-in showers, hairdryers, bidets, and heated towel racks. All rooms come with small flat-screen TVs with satellite cable, safes, minibars, and balconies with views of the pool or garden. Many past guests say the rooms could do with a refresh, and common complaints include thin walls and tired decor.
Features
Numerous pools and therapeutic treatments, plus a restaurant serving local fare
The Palace Hotel's most impressive feature is unquestionably its numerous thermal pools and therapeutic treatments. There are three swimming pools in total: two indoor pools and an outdoor pool that links directly to one of the indoor ones. There's a total of 35 hydromassage points spread across the pools, and the water temperature is a warm but not too hot 95 degrees F. The spa has dry and wet saunas, offers moisturizing milk baths, oil and Thai massages, mud wraps, and facials. There's also a small fitness room and bicycle rentals on-site. A breakfast, which is included in the room rate, includes breads, fruits, cereals, and pastries. Lunch and dinner are available in the hotel restaurant, which offers a menu of Italian cuisine. Gluten-free options are available.
