Don Giovanni Hotel Prague

The hotel's eye-catching 12-story curved block was built in 1995 and many interior spaces are named after the 1787 Prague world premiere of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" opera. The atrium-style lobby is large and revolves around a statue of the composer set between two red-carpeted staircases. An adjacent black piano is often played for passersby or patrons at the lobby bar (which takes the composer's middle name, "Amadeus"). The front desk has a separate area for the many groups that come here, although this can make common areas busy and impersonal at times. The lobby's clean lines and black and gold hues continue in the two restaurants, and the buffet eatery adds red accents from banquet seating. Unfortunately, while contemporary furnishings dot most areas, there are dated elements throughout, particularly in the rooms and Teatro Restaurant. Guests are a mix of corporate travelers, tour and school groups, and some families drawn by the hotel's competitive rates. 

Hotel Don Giovanni is located in a quiet neighborhood right next to a huge ceremony, and just steps from a smaller one. It's far from downtown sights, but the Zelivskeho metro station is three minutes from the hotel and trains from here run to Prague's New and Old Town. Expect around 15 minute rides to reach the Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, the Charles Bridge, and Prague Castle. Atrium Flora shopping mall is five minutes away by metro (or a 15-minute walk) and it has a movie theater complex and restaurants. A handful of restaurants are near the hotel, but more can be found downtown. Vaclav Havel Airport is a 35-minute drive away or 50 minutes by public transport.

Rooms are well-sized for Prague, however, though some contemporary elements are displayed, the overall design is dated and generic. Expect patterned carpets in garish red or neutral hues, tan walls with lovely classical artwork, medium-tone wood furniture with black trim, and seating areas in old-fashioned striped upholstery. While furnishings are in need of an update, they're well-maintained. Quality amenities include Smart TVs, kettles alongside tea and coffee, minibars, safes, desks, and air-conditioning. All rooms have seating, while Executives and Suites have full living areas, plus Executive Lounge access. Views are of the distant city's skyline, main road, or adjacent cemetery. Black-and-white-tiled bathrooms have small showers or shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries, as well as slippers and robes in upgraded units.

Features at Hotel Don Giovanni are suitable for both business and leisure travelers. Buffet and a la carte restaurants serve Czech, international, and Italian fare all day, and some rates include a buffet breakfast. Food across the board is well-reviewed. The lobby's Amadeus Bar provides live piano music at times, and their signature cocktail "The Opera" is the most popular drink. Executive-level guests get access to a lounge with free snacks and beverages, a computer and printer, and outdoor terrace with lovely views. Extensive conference and meeting space comes with audiovisual and multimedia equipment. The small and basic spa has a whirlpool, sauna, and treatment rooms, plus there's a small gym with a handful of cardio and weight-training equipment. Unfortunately, access requires a fee except for guests in upgraded units. On-site garage parking is available but costly. A gift shop, ATM, and free property-wide Wi-Fi are also available.
