Bottom Line

The Waves Hotel at Myrtle Beach is a family-run value hotel in a location that's quieter than the main strip. The hotel comes at a budget price, but there aren’t a lot of amenities, just an outdoor pool with ocean views and a lawn for sunbathing. Some of the hotel’s 23 rooms are in serious need of an update, but others have been refreshed more recently. Rooms with ocean-facing balconies and kitchenettes are available. Guests -- especially those traveling with pets -- may want to compare prices with the Mermaid Inn, a pet-friendly beachfront hotel with an outdoor pool deck set with colorful lounge chairs.

The Waves Hotel at Myrtle Beach

Scene

Small mom-and-pop beachfront property sandwiched between larger hotels

The Waves Hotel at Myrtle Beach is a small property located next to much larger hotels. The narrow lobby has a long front desk made of rustic wood and painted sky blue. Lights sit behind wooden crate-like grills, giving the space a dockside feel. Some areas are still in need of renovation; the elevator is old and creaky and the hallways are dark and reportedly smell musty. Outside things are brighter, with a wooden walkway leading past the sunbathing lawn and sand grass to the flat beach. A curved wooden bench offers a spot for guests to relax and take in the ocean views.
