Dragos Del Sur

Dragos del Sur is located in a big, imposing corner building with a stacked design, featuring balconies progressively set back from one another and a large sunroom at its entrance. Guests enter via this glassed-in front area to the basic lobby with a small seating area with red sofas, and a bar with canary-yellow accent walls, a few white wicker tables, and a row of bar stools. A pool table sits just behind the bar and there's a breakfast room with aquamarine accent walls and recessed ceiling lighting in the back. Two elevators framed with beige-colored marble lead up to the eight floors of rooms and there's a stairway off to one side. This lower-middle-range apartment hotel has a casual atmosphere and attracts a predominantly British clientele, including lots of families, as well as some middle-aged and older couples. 

Dragos el Sur is located on the southwestern coast of Tenerife, about a half-hour drive north of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. The main entrance is on the corner of a smaller lane and a sea-facing street with Indian and Italian restaurants, just a few minutes' walk down a hill from a large Lidl supermarket. The overall area is quiet, and there's not much in terms of nightlife. It's about a five-minute walk to the black-sand Playa La Arena, while Playa de los Gigantes takes about seven minutes to get to by car. Mount Teide at the center of the island takes about an hour to reach by car, while Masca Valley, popular with hikers, is about a 35-minute drive away. Tenerife South Airport takes around 45 minutes by road to reach, traffic permitting.

Apartment-style rooms come in one-, two-, and three-bedroom configurations. Decor is contemporary, with a turquoise-and-brown color scheme, with white furniture and plush gray pull-out sofas in the living rooms that sleep two. Bedrooms have turquoise accent walls, wooden headboards with built-in nightstands, and brown accent cushions and bedrunners. In general, Two- and Three-Bedroom Apartments have double beds in the master rooms plus twins in the additional bedrooms, but configurations can vary so it's best to confirm at booking. Even the one-bedroom units run large, and have open-plan living rooms with kitchenettes featuring two-burner stoves, granite countertops, kettles, coffeemakers, microwaves, and mini-fridges with small freezer compartments. 

Other standard amenities include safes (for a fee), free TV, and air-conditioning (though guests must leave a deposit at the front desk for remote controls). Bathrooms have big vanities, shower/tub combos, and bidets. All apartments have big terraces with black wicker furniture. Note that all of the Three-Bedroom Apartments and most of the others have sea views, but there are a few units on the higher floors with less desirable pool views. Welcome bottles of wine are a nice touch. On the downside, some wear and tear is visible, particularly in the showerheads and stovetops. 

Dragos del Sur offers basic amenities aimed at vacationers on a budget, and it doesn't have a lot of the bells and whistles found in other properties in the area -- not only is there no all-inclusive service, but there isn't a proper restaurant for lunch and dinner. On the ground floor, a step down from the lobby, is a bar with snacks and a covered glassed-in terrace area with lots of seating, plus a pool table. Just behind this is the breakfast room, where breakfast is available for a fee. There aren't any facilities for lunch and dinner, but inexpensive light snacks and sandwiches are sold during the day at the Pool Chill Out Tapas Bar, located on the fourth floor, right next to the pool and small kids' splash pool. Pool towels are available to rent. There are a few lounge chairs here, plus lots more on the rooftop solarium, along with Bali beds for rent. Just inside from the pool area is a small game area with a pool table and a little playhouse with kids, in addition to a fitness center with a surprisingly good variety of weight-training equipment alongside a few cardio machines and a rack of free weights. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and while there's no parking lot, there is plenty of street parking in the area.
