Pros
- Spacious rooms with comfy beds, flat-screen TVs and iPod docks
- Outdoor heated pool with lounge chairs, and a small Jacuzzi
- Small but modern fitness center with basic equipment
- Great freebies: Wi-Fi, breakfast, self-parking
- Kids Suites have a room with bunk beds and flat-screen TV
- Close to chain restaurants and convenience stores
- Pets allowed, for a fee
Cons
- An uninviting 15-minute walk to the beach
- Unattractive parking or highway views from every room
Bottom Line
The Holiday Inn Express has all the standard amenities of a mid-range chain hotel: a small but pleasant pool with lounge chairs, a tiny but up-to-date fitness center, and generic decor with funky patterned carpets throughout. However, the spacious, modern rooms (most of which have a microwave and mini-fridge), and the great freebies (Wi-Fi, breakfast, self-parking) add to the value. Families often prefer the Kid Suites, with a separate room with colorful bunk beds and a flat-screen TV. The beach, however, is a sketchy 15-minute walk away; if a beachfront stay is a priority, consider the Best Western Oceanfront Jacksonville Beach (for slightly higher rates).

Location
On restaurant- and strip mall-packed Highway 90, a 15-minute walk to the beach
The Holiday Inn Express Jacksonville Beach is located right on Beach Boulevard/Highway 90, a wide street lined with fast food joints and strip malls that cuts through Jacksonville Beach, connecting Jacksonville proper to the beach. There's a great golf course and a couple of major hospitals in the area, but the main draw here is basically the long, sandy beach, and Adventure Landing, a family-friendly amusement park. Both are a couple minutes’ drive from the hotel.
In the northern area of Florida, Jacksonville Beach is a calmer option compared to the packed and often party-centric beaches of Southern Florida. The beach is known for being a great surfing spot, and it also has a fishing pier that is frequented by locals and tourists. There are several small restaurants in the area, as well as a few touristy shops and surf shops.
- 35-minute drive to the Jacksonville International Airport
- 15-minute walk or 2-minute drive to the beach
- 15-minute walk or 3-minute drive to Adventure Landing amusement park
- 5-minute drive to the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club
- 6-minute drive to Ponte Verda Beach
- 21-minute drive to EverBank Field, home to the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars
- 23-minute drive to Tree Hill Nature Center
- 24-minute drive to Downtown Jacksonville's museums and restaurants
- 27-minute drive to Riverside historic neighborhood
